Jason Willaford, a native Floridian, received his BFA from Florida State University. Willaford began as a figurative and narrative painter until 2001 when he started working in encaustics. He worked in this medium for 8 years while living in Marfa, Texas. After moving to Dallas in 2009 he shifted his focus to working with repurposed vinyl-based as his medium. Willaford’s constructions from old vinyl billboards were exhibited in a solo exhibition at Oklahoma Contemporary in 2014. In the summer of 2015, Willaford was nominated to participate in the Elaine De Kooning Artist in Resident program in East Hampton, NY. The resulting body of work was presented in a solo show at the Dallas Contemporary. Recently, Willaford was commissioned by Green Box Arts Festival for their yearly billboard project in Green Mountain Falls Colorado. Willaford’s work can be found in over 200 private and the public collections; including Clements Collection Dallas, Bloomingdales, Toyota Headquarters, Fidelity, and Neiman Marcus, among others. He currently lives and works in Dallas, TX.
