Camouflage, Masks of insecurities is a series of masks that represent the many facades of humanity and the layers of a disguise. Titles in series such as, Pretty, Ugly, Loser, Whore the payer we wear to get through life. The work questions whether these facades are false pretenses or intentional precautions. The series consist of works 3D vinyl painting constructions on mirrored plexi and wood. The flat material is the cut out sections from the Mappings installation and then sewn (akin to quilting), painted and transformed into a rigid structure reminiscent of a mask. Behind this created facade, one’s physical reflection in the mirrored base alludes to a contemplative space that lies within. Beyond the standard expectation of craft, each artist creates work that is visually intriguing and conceptually rich.
